From October 2015 to April 2016, Sun Bear Outreach, focused on bringing immediate improvements to the welfare of the sun bears in the care of an orangutan organization called Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF). In

collaboration with BOSF, we spent 6 months building larger cages and improving old ones for 20 of the 45 sun bears at their sanctuary in Samboja Lestari, East Kalimantan.

enclosures but the remaining 20 don’t because they can escape from these enclosures or because they don’t get along with the other bears. The cages of these bears were particularly small and inadequate, so our first mission was to transfer the bears to more appropriate cages as quickly as possible. This is now done and we have thus moved on to the second phase of improvements, which is to make large forest enclosures for these same bears. To find out more : PROJECT 2017
