9 MAY 2026 UPDATE

 

Mia, the last sun bear cub to have arrived in Samboja Lestari last year in February 2025 is now 15 months old, weighs 26 Kg and is doing very well. Mia and the 2 cubs who arrived before her, Andrea and Noor, are together in a 1 Ha forest enclosure away from human activity and with minimal human contact. They are the 3 best release candidates at BOS Samboja Lestari, and the plan is to get them back to the wild, but they will have to be patient because there is a lot of red tape and a lot of hurdles to overcome before this can happen.

 

 

The renovation of an old enclosure at Samboja Lestari called Bottom Yard is complete since mid-April and the two bears Pampy and Madu are now enjoying it. Pampy has stopped all her self-harming behavior as soon as she was moved into Bottom Yard and Madu is also more relaxed now that he is separated from Chico, a male bear that he was sharing another enclosure with. Pampy and Madu are happy together and their transfer to this new outdoor space has greatly improved their welfare. Thank you to the donors who made this possible.
